Ortigia

There're cities with history and then there's Siracusa.
Founded roughly 2700 years ago by the Greeks, it rivaled Athens at one point and was considered one of the great Greek cities.
Ortigia is an island at the heart of the city.
You know a place has history when you pick up some calamari fritti from the local farmer's market, take a couple more steps and stumble upon the ruins of the Temple of Apollo from the 6th century BC.

Equally impressive – Archimedes was born and lived here.

History aside, this is a very, very pretty town but in a way that's authentic and unique combining Sicilian, Southern Italian and Greek aesthetics.
