La Jolla
While promoting his book ‘How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia’, author Mohsin Hamid made a stop in La Jolla (in Southern California, pronounced: la-HOY-a). At the event, he was effusive in his praise of the local coastline. I’m guessing the tour took him around the world but clearly it was La Jolla that had left a mark because it gets a mention in his next novel ‘Exit West’. Got me thinking: La Jolla is kind of an under-rated place. For a small period in late-December through January every year, it experiences extraordinary sunsets. This capture is from seven years ago, not long after I had taken up photography and was obsessed with seascapes. Back then, all I was thinking about was nailing the shot but looking back, it was an absolute privilege that I even got to be there. One of the many ways photography has enriched my life.
